The Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has engaged the leadership of the Ghana Chamber of Young Entrepreneurs (GCYE) in discussions focused on strengthening Ghana’s youth entrepreneurship ecosystem and advancing private sector development. The meeting was held at the invitation of Dr. Bawumia as part of his engagements with key stakeholder groups to understand their priorities, challenges and recommendations for Ghana’s economic development. The engagement provided an opportunity for the Chamber to share its perspectives on the business environment for young entrepreneurs and propose practical policy interventions to support the establishment, growth and sustainability of youth-led enterprises. Among the key issues discussed were the advancement of the proposed Startup and Innovation Act, improved access to affordable financing for young businesses, and the restoration of targeted tax incentives to reduce the cost of doing business for startups and emerging enterprises. The Chamber also highlighted the need to expand public procurement opportunities for youth- and women-led businesses, strengthen entrepreneurship incubation and skills development systems, and improve access to regional and international markets, particularly through the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA). Another important area of discussion was the need to institutionalise the participation of young entrepreneurs in economic policy formulation, ensuring that their experiences and recommendations are adequately reflected in national development priorities. The leadership of GCYE expressed appreciation to Dr. Bawumia and his team for the invitation and the opportunity to contribute to discussions on the future of Ghana’s private sector. The Chamber expressed hope that the policy recommendations presented would receive serious consideration and inform practical measures to address the challenges facing young entrepreneurs. As a national advocacy institution for young entrepreneurs, GCYE remains committed to constructive and nonpartisan engagement with political leaders, policymakers and other stakeholders to advance policies that support entrepreneurship and business growth. The Chamber will continue to advocate for an enabling business environment in which young Ghanaian entrepreneurs can build sustainable enterprises, create jobs and contribute meaningfully to national economic development.
